Mary received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Akron in 1977.

Mary was a Senior Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand from 1977 to 1981, and a Supervisor with a local Cleveland area firm through 1984 when she took a sabbatical to raise her three boys. After moving to Michigan, Mary served as a Treasurer and member of the Board of the Livingston Area Council Against Spouse Abuse, and also served as a publicly elected trustee on the Brighton Area Schools Board of Education. Mary and her family returned to the Medina area in 2000. Mary joined Humpal, Jones and Company as a Supervisor in 2001.

Both she and her husband are Medina natives, graduating from Medina High School in 1974.
